Vermont Natural Coatings PolyWhey Exterior Penetrating Stain creates a non-toxic, waterproof barrier and provides protection against mildew, mold, and harmful UV rays. A neutral odor, quick drying, and easy cleanup with soap and water make PolyWhey Exterior Wood Finish a durable and environmentally friendly finish. PolyWhey exterior stains and waterproofers protect decks, fencing, docks, raised beds, outdoor furniture, and siding.

Available in 14 tints and quarts, one gallon, and five-gallon pails.

This product is not recommended for use on IPE, Mahogany, or other exotic decking.

General
  • Safe for use over water

Use OnExterior wood siding, furniture, railings, fences and other
wood surfaces. For use on new wood, pressure-treated wood
and weathered wood. Not recommended on IPE, Mahogany
or exotic wood horizontal surfaces.
Surface PreparationHammer down any raised nails. Sand with the grain to completely remove film of old finishes. Be sure surface is thoroughly cleaned & dried
Application
  • Stir well prior to use.
  • Always test the finish on a sample piece of wood or less visible area to confirm compatibility and desired appearance. Do not apply over finishes
  • Apply with a brush, paint pad, foam brush or spray. Do not thin. Thinning will result in a reduced product performance. Apply an even coat with the grain. Maintain a wet edge. Coat the end grain of all exposed boards. Use 17 to 19 tip and medium to coarse spray pattern and brush out any puddles.
  • Apply two coats. The second coat must be applied while the first coat is still damp. Do not sand between coats
  • Apply when air and surface temperatures are between 50 F - 80 F and relative air humidity of 40%-60%.
  • Under normal conditions treated wood will be fully cured in 48 hours.
Drying/Curing TimeUnder normal conditions, surface will be ready for foot traffic in 2-3 hours after second coat. One gallon will cover approximately 300 sq. ft. depending on porosity of wood.
