Vermont Natural Coatings is by far the top available stain and water repellent I have used over the past 30 years.
Applies easily and looks great. Withstands both full sun and brutal northern Ohio winters. Natural product with low VOC too!!!

We love this stuff. It goes on without any odor and water clearly beads up on it after it is cured. Not sure about its longevity but I am pleased with its first cure.

Very easy to use

Product was easy to apply with a battery powered sprayer and brushed in with a large 6” brush on the end of a paint pole. This allowed me to keep me upright and off my knees. Great customer service. I had an extended conversation with someone about the product prior to my purchase. with so many similar products on the market, it was a pleasure to have someone familiar with the product to answer my questions about how it measures up compared to other products not as safe for pets, people and the environment. So far, water is beading up great and I’m hopeful that it will last for years to come before I have to clean and waterproof my deck again.

Went on easily with a brush, soaked in, dried fast, no odor on raw cedar. We'll see how it performs over time.

So far so good with this sealant! I've got about half the fence done, and water seemed to bead nicely during a recent rain. And all the specs seem to support their green-friendly credentials.

I had been looking for a sealant for our new fence that wouldn't break my heart by being an environmental disaster in a can. This product appears to work well (two rainstorms in and the water beads nicely off the fence) and seems to check all the sustainability boxes.

Easy to apply, milky watery substance. Used a brush, but can see how spraying would work well as well. Looking great, beads well, looking forward to see how it behaves after a couple of years

Easy to use. Goes on with no fuss. Had to make sure to put the second coat on within the 2-3 hour dry time, however, so there's that. Which also means that this is not a one-coat application, which cuts the sq foot coverage in half. And this stuff isn't cheap. So you do the math. But if you want to treat your wood well and want to be good to the environment in the process, this is the stuff. Can't tell you how long it lasts, of course, as I just put it on the deck in the last week, but it brings out the character of the wood and adds a slightly darker cast, so not 100% clear. But pretty close. Very happy with the product and will use again (when I've saved up a few more pennies).

could not be any easier to apply

We bought 2 expensive wood tables and chairs for out Tucson covered patio. I was concerned that they were not sealed so I bought this and applied myself. Super easy, no smell, mostly easy clean up and it didn’t change the look of our tables.

We had an excellent experience with Natural Coatings water proofer. We applied it to pine tongue and groove on ceiling of newly added enclosed sun porch. Very happy there were no VOCs. Very happy with the clear finish.

I should have read more or asked more questions before choosing a finish. I needed to refinish my pine front door which had a peeling, weatherbeaten finish. I wanted an exterior finish with low vocs but also wanted a slight sheen. I chose the Penetrating Water Proofer, which should protect the wood, but is completely absorbed into the wood, has no sheen, and CANNOT BE COATED WITH ANYTHING ELSE WATER BASED BECAUSE IT IS A WATER PROOFER. I just have to accept a rather unfinished look. I learned how important it is to read up and ask questions before buying.

I recently used your product on the wood framing for a greenhouse. I especially appreciate this nontoxic biodegradable stain as I am an organic gardener.

I've now used this product on several decks, and of all the decking products I've used, I like this the best. Time will tell how it holds up, but so far, so good. I would recommend.

No odor! Easy to apply and clean off the brush. Definitely prevents water from sinking into the wood. Does not change the appearance of the wood.

Though I have not applied the product yet, I can attest that the price was great compared to other environmentally-focused products and the shipping was very quick. Thank you so much.

This product was easy to apply and fairly forgiving. We haven't had much rain since it's been applied, but water does bead up. I can't give a true rating as it's only been a week since I used it. But, the deck looks great right now.

The penetrating sealer worked well. The second coat was applied while the first was still damp (per the instructions) and it eventually soaked in and dried clear. I ran out of the Vermont Natural Coatings Water Proofer and needed to finish some more wood so I bought a similar product made by Valspar. What a mistake! The Valspar product didn't work near as well as the Vermont Natural Coatings product.and it didn't didn't dry clear (went on yellow and dried yellow. Yuck!). Since the Vermont Natural Coatings products are only available online I will get another gallon to prepare for my next project.

I loved purchasing it because not only was it a convincingly green product but also, the price was good and the coupon code worked easily, and the shipping was free?? I cant tell you how different that experience was from an order I was working on with another company. The product went on easily, the instructions were reasonable and clear, and it seems to be working well, water is beading on the deck surface. Rise is now on a very short list of businesses I actually want to do business with.

Excellent. Water was not absorbed by wood. Nice to see the water beading on top. No color change. Used this to allow the natural grey color. Delivered to northern coastal Maine in two days! installers very pleased with application—I was very pleased with how fast it went!
