Recommended ApplicationFor most applications, 1 coat of PolyWhey® Neptune Wood Floor Stain directly on bare wood is recommended, then top coat with 3 coats of your chosen Vermont Natural Coatings PolyWhey floor finish.
CompatibilityPolyWhey Neptune will adhere to most bare wood. Wood species can affect stain, sealer and finish results. Prepare a sample board or test area to confirm desired appearance and compatibility.
Surface PrepSand and prepare floor using NWFA accepted methods. It is recommended sanding the floor with 80 to 100 grit sand paper. Remove all dust with a vacuum and tack surface with a clean cloth. Surfaces must be clean, dry and free of wax, grease and dust.
Recommended ApplicatorsLint-free cloth, painter's pad or sponge.
Application

1) Stir and/or shake material thoroughly before use. If water popping floor prior to staining, wait until the floor is fully dried before applying Neptune.

2) Apply Neptune with the grain of the wood at coverage rate of approximately 700-800 sq. feet per gallon.

3) Allow Neptune to penetrate for 6-8 minutes then remove any excess with a soft clean cloth or buffing with non abrasive material. When a Vermont Natural Coatings floor finish is applied as the top coat, the color will shift back to its original tone.

4) Allow 8 hours of normal drying conditions before top coating with Vermont Natural Coatings top coats. Roller application is preferred, t-bar can be used.

5) After 2 coats of finish have been applied, lightly sand to knock down any grain raise. Apply final coat of your choice of Vermont Natural Coatings floor finish.

Shelf LifeStain in properly re-sealed containers can be used for at least 12 months after date of manufacture.
PrecautionsVermont Natural Coatings PolyWhey products have low VOC levels, but should be used with adequate ventilation.
